According to theAmerican Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), as many as 27 million Americans may be affected by thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, although more than half remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Thyroid problems are also more prevalent than diabetes. Dr. Daniel Duick, President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, talks about the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in the United States and discusses the most common types of thyroid problems. He also sheds light on the common misdiagnosis of thyroid problems and mentions the importance of consulting an endocrinologist to discuss thyroid health.
